The neighborhood consists of around 41,500 residents and is nicely laid out. Residents in this neighborhood are mainly middle class families although there are also many seniors living in the neighborhood. Homes in the area are reasonably priced and while there are some high rises and apartment buildings as well as a scattering of 2 story homes. The majority of homes in the neighborhood are 3 bedroom single family homes.

The Bay Area neighborhood is a great place to raise a family since the neighborhood is not only attractive, but safe. The school district for this area is excellent and has received several awards for high scores on state tests.

There are plenty of activities to do both in and near the neighborhood. The Sunrise Mall is a popular shopping spot with many nice stores as well as a few good places to eat. The World Market offers goods from around the world many of which is unique and won’t be found in many other places. Besides the nearby bay, Cole Park offers a place to get out and partake in outdoor activities. Located close by the Bay Area neighborhood is USS Lexington Museum, Funtrackers family center, the South Texas botanical garden, and Nature center.

The Calallen neighborhood of Corpus Christi is an extremely quiet neighborhood with a population of about 20,000 residents. This neighborhood is extremely friendly and family oriented, made up of mostly middle class families with one or two children.
Calallen has the highest liveability score of any neighborhood in Corpus Christi. It is considered a very safe place to live with well lit streets and maintained sidewalks. Children feel comfortable playing outside and individuals feel safe walking alone at night in this neighborhood.

The majority of the homes in Calallen are single story houses with very well kept lawns. Known for it’s pet friendly atmosphere and its community holiday spirit this is a neighborhood where people are truly neighborly. Calallen is somewhat diverse with a population made up of people who have English, Scots-Irish, Latin and German roots, allowing residents to experience different cultures in a friendly and open way.

Children in Calallen can look forward to a good education as the school is ranked third in Corpus Christi and its advanced placement program is one of the best programs around. The local high school football team is often a contender for the state championship and the band has earned a lot of attention in the community.

The neighborhood has several chain stores such as Hobby Lobby and Home Depot. The unemployment rate for Calallen is much lower than the national average. Finding parking in the neighborhood is easy. While jobs vary in this neighborhood the majority of people have less than a fifteen minute to drive to and from work, leaving more time to spend with family and friends.

Central City is considered to be the least desirable and liveable of Corpus Christi neighborhoods. With one of the largest populations of any neighborhood (close to 93,000 residents) this neighborhood at has one of highest crime rates in the city.

While the neighborhood is made of mostly of well kept older homes with reasonably nice size yards only about ½ of the residents of Central City find the cities to be well lit and the majority of the residents are afraid to walk alone after dark due to the high crime rate. The neighborhood is not considered to be an ideal place to raise children not only because of the high crime rate, but the schools receive a below average rating when compared to the schools in other Corpus Christi neighborhoods and throughout Texas. Less than ¾ of the students in this neighborhood graduate high school. If you are parent and want your child to get an excellent education, you are going to want to choose another neighborhood.

Central City also doesn’t offer much in the way of a nightlife, however there are plenty of things to do during the day. There are several golf courses, history museums, Heritage Park Cultural Center, and the Marina.

The majority of people in Central City drive cars on a regular basis and finding parking spaces is relatively easy. Household income in this neighborhood is quite low with many families struggling to make ends meet. Due to lower property costs, this may be a good option for young couples just starting out who are looking to save money and work their way up into a better neighborhood.

Flour Bluff is a coastal suburban area of Corpus Christi with a population of around 18,000. The neighborhood is made up of a number of small apartments and single family homes with well kept yards and several neighborhood stores. The neighborhood itself is made up of hardworking residents and reflects that this is a lower middle income community with the average age of its residents being in their late 30s. Nearly half of the couples have children under the age 18. The majority of adults in the neighborhood work in either sales or service industry, many right in the neighborhood itself.

Due to its location on the coast Flour Bluff has a bit of nautical and historic feel and is great for those who love most any type of water sport. Of the 7 neighborhoods in Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff is considered to be right smack in the middle scoring number 4 on the best neighborhoods to live in Corpus Christi.

The cost of living in this neighborhood is slightly less than the national average making it a good neighborhood for lower income families. It also has an extremely low unemployment rate. The crime rate for Flour Bluff is slightly higher than the national average and many residents feel that this neighborhood could use more street lights.

Flour Bluff is not a bad neighborhood to raise children, although the schools in this area considered to be only slightly higher than average.

While most people do commute to and from work by automobile and have a 15 to 30 minute drive to work and then back again this neighborhood does have a decent amount of the population (over 12%) that walks to and from work each day.

Mustang-Padre Island is considered to be the best of Corpus Christi neighborhoods and it is easy to understand why, This neighborhood offers the very best in island living since residents have easy access to both the ocean and Corpus Christi Bay. With a population of just over 4,000 residents the Mustang-Padre neighborhood has a real friendly community feel. The income levels on this island neighborhood is higher than national average, which is a good thing since home values are higher as well. There is a pretty low unemployment rate in this neighborhood, which adds to the overall friendliness and nuances of this community.

Mustang-Padre Island has many larger homes with very well kept yards and the neighborhood is considered to be extremely safe. While there does not appear to be a large number of street lights, most residents don’t feel the need for more and state that they can walk alone at night without feeling uncomfortable. Mustang-Padre Island schools are excellent and parents take a real interest in their children’s education volunteering to help out at the elementary schools. Most of the residents do use their vehicles to get back and forth from work and to get around the island. There is plenty of parking day or the night.

There are a couple of groceries stores on the island that will cater to most of your daily needs, as well as several other shops. Residents of the island have several restaurant choices for dining out. A lot of free time is spent in outdoor pursuits in and around the water. Residents really seem to enjoy the quiet and neighborly atmosphere of Mustang-Padre Island and appreciate the sense of community.

The Northwest Neighborhood of Corpus Christi is a rural suburban neighborhood with a population of a little over 15,000. Living in this neighborhood is extremely desirable for those people who want the beauty and space that the rural countryside provides combined with the convenience of the best of the urban attractions.

Homes in this area not cheap, but they are also not overly expensive, with many of the homes being single family homes of various sizes. The yards are well maintained and residents feel that this rural suburban neighborhood has ample sidewalks.
The cost of living in the Northwest neighborhood is slightly less than than the national average as is the unemployment rate. The income for this community is about on par with the national average.

The neighborhood is pet friendly and many families have one or two dogs. The Northwest Neighborhood is a good place to raise a family although only slightly more than 70% of their students graduate. Students do score high on state tests showing that a good education is available.

This neighborhood offers a lot in outdoor activities having a number of well designed golf courses, and several well tended public parks. It is also home to the Selena Museum. The Northwest neighborhood has a couple of grocery stores and several restaurants. However, nightlife in this community is quite limited. Restaurants include Southern foods, Mexican, Italian, BBQ and even Beef and Beach eateries to choose between. Shopping is limited mainly to one small boutique as well as a couple of drugstores, a hardware, a florist, and a nutrition shop. Other shopping opportunities are just a short drive away in some of the more urban neighborhoods. Most people in the neighborhood rely on a car to travel to and from work. There is plenty of parking in the neighborhood.

South Side Neighborhood

The South Side neighborhood referred to simply as “South Side” is the largest neighborhood by population. South Side is considered to be a safe and clean neighborhood where neighbors are friendly and greet one another with smiles and kind words. In this pet friendly neighborhood you are likely to see your neighbors out walking their dogs, strolling down the sidewalks, or jogging in the parks.

The homes in South Side are well kept with nicely manicured lawns. Household incomes in this neighborhood is higher than the natural average while home values are slightly lower. 55% percent of the residents in this neighborhood own their own homes.

There are plenty of amenities for South Side residents to enjoy.
